Tillmann said the City Council and the township trustees, which are the governing boards for the volunteer department, will need to consider altering buildings or making other adjustments to accommodate the trailer. Since the trailer has not yet been ordered, Tillmann said the governing boards still had enough time to act, but he urged them not to delay.

"The fire department is going to come and ask if they can store equipment at the city building," he said. He also said a city property along State Street might provide some development options.

The federal grant from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) would also be used to purchase breathing apparatus and other equipment for the fire department.

In other action, the Council learned that recent efforts by city staff and others had raised $1,682 in donations for Hurricane Katrina relief. The Council agreed to raise the donation to an even $2,000.

The Council also approved an $8,170 purchase of computer equipment and software for city hall offices. Officials said the current equipment has been experiencing frequent breakdowns and other problems. The equipment will be purchased from J&S Electronic Business Systems, Burlington.
