It’s that time of year again when Bethel celebrates Columbus Day with a parade that starts at 8:45 a.m. Monday at The Putnam House on Depot Place.

Paraders will go along Greenwood Avenue to P.T. Barnum Square for a 9 a.m. ceremony presided over by Columbus and Queen Isabella and the raising of the Italian flag.

Afterward, there will be an Italian breakfast buffet at The Putnam House served until 10:30 a.m. and including music by J&B Lite band. Cost for the buffet is $11.95 per adult and $5.95 per child, and reservations are suggested.

Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and hundreds of titles will be available from fiction to sports, children’s picture books to cookbooks. The book fair also will have holiday books, computer software and other gift ideas.

Cheryl Scheinin, the author of “Angel’s Horizon’s Inspirational Words From Heaven,” will be at the Bethel Arts Junction on Sunday and on Oct. 23 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

This year, the New York Yankees gave the center permission to use the team’s logos in its “Opening Day Yankee Quilt.” The Yankees will purchase a block of tickets if any remain.

The regular business meeting will be followed at 11 a.m. by a program given by Ingrid McCauley called “Folklore and Flowers.” It is open to the public.

There is no charge. Organizers only pass the hat for an out-of-state guest poet. Otherwise, they ask that you just buy coffee, tea or other goodies from the coffeehouse.

Municipal elections will be held on Nov. 8 and the registrars of voters will hold registration sessions Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Clifford J. Hurgin Municipal Center, 1 School St. To be eligible to vote on Nov. 8, you must register by Oct. 25.
